“Out in the countryside stands a sweet shop run by the Shikada family for nine generations: Shikada Dagashi, a small business selling traditional Japanese candy. However, despite his father’s pleas, Kokonotsu Shikada, an aspiring manga artist, adamantly refuses to inherit the family business. However, this may start to change with the arrival of the eccentric Hotaru Shidare. Hotaru is in search of Kokonotsu’s father, with the goal of bringing him back to work for her family’s company, Shidare Corporation, a world famous sweets manufacturer. Although the senior Shikada initially refuses, he states that he will change his mind on one condition: if Hotaru can convince Kokonotsu to take over the family shop. And so begins Hotaru’s mission to enlighten the boy on the true joy of delicious and nostalgic dagashi!”-myanimelist

Dagashi Kashi is filled with a fun facts about all sorts of Japanese snacks (or “dagashi”) and hilarious reactions from Kokonatsu staring at Hotaru’s “dagashis”. The artwork is not too shabby, I love the character designs for everyone especially Saya-chwan~~~! Dagashi Kashi is successful even without a deep character development, the everyday interacts between friends is very entertaining to watch and each episode being about a certain type of dagashi makes each episode fresh and unpredictable. The adaption from the manga to anime is very well done, the anime more or less sticks with the manga, and key moments shown in the anime the same way it’s shown in the manga so that’s a plus. The comedy is outstanding, the facial changes when something dramatic happens, Hotaru’s fantasies about Dagashi, and Kokonatsu’s Dad always lurking in the shadow to set up his son XD. Dagashi Kashi is a full of sweet moments, and a couple chuckles, with lots of sugar on the side perfect for those with that sweet tooth!
