“As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced are known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Locomotive trains, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikoma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The station, now under attack by Kabane, is the opportunity Ikoma has been looking for.” -myanimelist.net

There are many misconceptions about Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, people saying that it’s “exactly like Attack on Titan” and that it’s “nothing unique”, oh and my favorite it’s “mainstream”. Well it’s mainstream simply because it’s good and people love to watch it! It’s similar to Attack on Titan because Wit Studio (the animation company) was the animator for Attack on Titan so of course the artwork and animation will be similar! Nothing unique? The only people who say that are those who just started watching anime, and the only one they’ve actually watch fully is AoT, and assumes that all anime has something similar to it, WHICH IS FALSE. I mean have you seen Zombie-like creatures that can only be killed by getting pierced through their hearts that happens to be protected by a iron-like cage? Not to mention that some strong willed individuals can overcome the disease and gain extraordinary powers? I THINK NOT! The animation is absolutely lovely! It’s basically movie quality, and I’m sure some of you know the difference, movie animation is much cleaner and refine, but the animation for this TV show has the same quality. The plot is really great too, The idea of train stations being the safe areas from the Kabaneri being overrun and forcing the main cast to seek refuge in other stations is very action packed and dark as well with all of the death. I really recommend watching this one and don’t listen to the internet trolls!!!
